Avatar Movie
![]()
After a month of waiting, Oliver and I finally went back to the IMAX theater to watch Avatar in 3D. The first time we went, the movie got cancelled about 3 minutes in due to a fire in the film booth. I think one of the 3D reels had caught on fire and had ruined the 3D film.
This time however the movie didn't catch on fire. And we felt we definitely made the right decision to watch it in IMAX. The striking visuals and vast scenery really make it worth it to watch the movie on the ginormous screen and in 3D. The movie is very impressive when you take into account the technology required to make full-on CGI characters that look and seem believable. But my raving stops there.
The plot leaves much to be desired in that it is almost a complete rehash of Disney's Pocahontas. At no point in the movie did I feel that the plot took an unexpected turn that left me surprised. When I think of movies that have done that, I think of "The Matrix" which totally caught me off guard at many points in the story, but was also visually amazing.
When the lights came back on at the end of the film, we simply got up and walked out of the theater. We were glad that the movie worked; however, this was a movie that didn't leave us with much to discuss in terms of its broad themes, life questions, or amazing ideas that had been presented... well, at least, nothing that hadn't already been discussed after watching Pocahontas.
In the end, I would say watch it in IMAX or at least the big screen while its still in theaters. The 3D effects are definitely worth the price of admission. But if you end up miss it in theaters, you could just rent "Dances with Wolves".
